The Labor Education and Resource Center (LERC) at South Seattle College provides education, training, events, and applied research on labor issues to working people in Washington State. Along with trainings and events of interest to working people, the LERC also produces the Workers' Rights Manual for Washington State.
In Washington, you have five basic rights as a worker.
- You have the right to be paid
- You have the right to take care of yourself & your family
- You have the right to be free of discrimination
- You have the right to be safe at work
- You have the right to organize
The online version of the Workers’ Rights Manual is written to be an easy-to-use reference guide to workplace rights covered by federal, state and local laws, including the rights enumerated above. However, this is not a substitute for legal advice. If you need practical legal assistance, please contact an attorney or one of the community services listed in the resources chapter at the end of the manual.
You can download the Workers' Rights Manual in English or in Spanish. Other languages are also available from the main page.
