Governor Signs Equal Bargaining Rights for Faculty into Law

Governor Inslee Signs Equal Bargaining Rights EHB 1237 Into Law

March 30, 2018

EHB 1237, modifies the existing collective bargaining law to authorize local funds (tuition, fees, etc.) for compensation to faculty at community and technical colleges. Until now, only academic employees at four-year universities and K-12 were able to bargain local funds. College presidents have actively lobbied against using local funds every year it was introduced. This historic legislation passed the Legislature and was signed into law by the Governor on March 27. It will go into effect July 1, 2018. In simple terms, this legislation gives equal rights to faculty unions to negotiate local funds for salary increases.
