AFT Washington's 2021 Convention

The 2021 AFT Washington convention will take place virtually, over May 13-15th.

If you are a non-delegate, you may register to attend the workshops and entertainment programming, including the keynote speech by Representative Pramila Jayapal and the board awards. This programming will take place Thursday, May 13th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and Friday, May 14, from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.

The workshops offered are:

Race & Labor (WSLC): This workshop addresses the fact that race and organized labor are inextricably bound, but that labor has yet to develop a robust counter-narrative to right-wing populism and other challenges to integrating racial justice into unions' organizations to combat the divide-and-conquer strategy of labor opponents.

Bylaws as a Tool for Union Strength: Well written bylaws provide a structure that supports a union's ability to organize, engage its members, and build strength. Learn some of the best practices and recommended language for bylaws. Presented by AFT.

Biden's First 100: As America exits the pandemic, the role of good government in guiding the nation has become very clear. This workshop looks at the major decisions of the Biden administration's first 100 days and how they contribute (or not) to rebuilding the American social contract.

If you are a delegate, you will get different materials. Do not register using the above link.

We will be electing officers for the AFT Washington Executive Board at the convention. Due to the fact the convention is virtual, we have updated our guidelines for nomination; you can read the full guide to nominations and elections as well. We recommend reading both if you are considering standing for election.

The proposed bylaws amendments can be found here.
