If the answer is yes, then the AFT is the place for you. AFT is not a union for teachers only. Nationally, we represent over 1.5 million members, including: pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state and local government employees; and nurses and other healthcare professionals. At AFT Washington, a state affiliate of AFT representing 6,400 members, membership is usually established by joining an AFT local. Most AFT locals are organized around a specific employer (such as a school district or a college). In Washington State, you would contact AFT Washington at aftwashington@aftwa.org. You can request a member application form and submit it to your local union or to AFT Washington.
