2021 AFT Washington Retiree Chapter Annual Meeting

You are invited to attend the Retiree Chapter's Annual Meeting on Friday, May 21st from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. The Zoom information will be provided to those who RSVP.

All retirees are invited to attend.

The meeting will include officer elections, as well as union business. All members are eligible to run for office and to vote for officers.

Join the AFT Washington Retiree Chapter

If you are retired and fit one or more of the following categories, you can join the Retiree Chapter simply by completing an application form and mailing it to us at 625 Andover Park West, Suite 111, Tukwila, WA  98188. THERE ARE NO DUES.

  • You were ever a member of an AFT Washington, WFT, and/or WSFT Local
  • You were employed by AFT Washington, WFT, and/or WSFT
  • You have had or have some association with an AFT local outside the State of Washington or with the national American Federation of Teachers

You may also join the chapter if you are the spouse or partner of a Retiree-Chapter member or a member of her or his family.

How to preserve and share your legacy

On October 21, 2014, the chapter sponsored a workshop on “How to Save, Show and Share Your Personal Legacy," conducted by Jeannine Florance, a personal historian and photo organizer, working out of Bend, Oregon. As part of the workshop, she distributed a handout regarding resources that can be helpful in such personal-legacy projects, which you may view here.

How To Pick A Candidate, A Step-by-Step Guide

This helpful guide, produced by the League of Education Voters-Seattle, outlines seven steps to successfully picking a candidate who is running for office -- including looking at their campaign information, rating candidates, and examining the candidate's campaign finances. AFT Washington's COPE Committee reviews the candidates and their responses to our candidate questionnaire about the issues we care about most and vets them through a detailed process. The top candidates whom we endorse are published in our website and print materials.
