COPE
As part of an ongoing evaluation, the labor community -- including AFT Washington -- has revised its candidate endorsement process through its COPE program. Our goal is to ensure that we are endorsing candidates for office who strongly support education and working-family issues. To that end, we have developed an endorsement matrix through which to rate candidates. One part is for incumbents who are running for their position again and the other is for challengers.

COPE - our Committee on Political Education -- is the political action committee for AFT Washington. COPE enables our union to engage the membership in both crating our political agenda and in making meaningful financial contributions to support candidates who will champion our legislative agenda.

Do you know unions cannot use members' dues for political purposes? That's why "the Committee on Political Education (COPE)" is one way your union can have an affect on elected leaders and elections. Your voluntary contribution to COPE, either through payroll deduction or personal account withdrawal, will allow us to help elect education- and labor-friendly candidates to state and federal office.
